The Gathering 2020
The possibility of having a community-wide Christian revival has been faithfully prayed about for several years. This particular event, Gathering 2020, has been prayed about diligently for the last couple of years. With this much prayer coverage with our Lord and after careful consideration, the leadership team discussed and confirmed at a recent monthly Gathering 2020 meeting that our August event at the VBC will be postponed to a future date. We are concerned about the health risk to such a large group of people by holding an event of this size in an indoor facility given the continuance, as well as recent uptick, in COVID-19 in our community. We also feel the strain our pastors and other ministry leaders are experiencing as they make adjustments and shepherd their congregations through this unprecedented time, as well as to engage as God is leading them in understanding and working toward racial reconciliation. Simply put, the pragmatic realities are aligning with the ways our Gathering 2020 team has been led by the Lord as we’ve prayed and submitted this event to His will, and this is just not good timing for many people. We will contact the VBC in the next few days to explore the possibilities for future dates.
In the meantime, as we continue to pray about a future event and God’s will and timing for it, several of the participants in the Gathering 2020 effort intend to join in where God is already working. As racial reconciliation in and between our churches has been one of the areas of prayer in recent years as mentioned above, we hope you will prayerfully consider getting involved in the Thursday and/or Sunday night Prayer for Change sessions being held downtown.

Also, several of us joined the lunch meeting of pastors and ministry leaders coordinated by the Rock, to see how we might lend a hand or whether God intends for us to coordinate our efforts This meeting was held 13 July at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and hosted by Dr. Wendell Davis.
God, as always, has clearly been at work in our community and through His people praying for revival. He has introduced churches and God’s people to each other and fostered new relationships. Dozens of people have responded to the Gospel and received salvation through God’s saving grace! Prayers offered by the Prayer committee and many of you have been answered in a variety of amazing ways. We know God always answers our prayers, and perhaps the convergence of events – the need to postpone our Gathering 2020 August event and the Prayer for Change/monthly pastor’s meeting to work towards racial reconciliation – are all for “such a time as this”? (Esther 4:14). We will keep you updated as activities progress. Please continue to keep The Gathering in your prayers in coming weeks as we all continue to seek God’s will for His people, our community and the lost and broken.

Lincoln Village Ministry | Huntsville AL
Just a few miles from the most expensive houses in the inner city of Huntsville were men, women, and children surviving without the basic necessities. No running water or electricity. Plumbing didn’t work and floors were rotted from leaking pipes. Children had broken toys and went to bed hungry. A man with a heart for this inner city neighborhood stepped into the home of a little girl and her mother. That visit opened the man’s eyes and eventually a community’s eyes to the great need in their midst: the need for Christ.
Lincoln Village Ministries is the product of one man’s call to action. The call has spread all over the city of Huntsville to pour out the hope and love of Jesus Christ into the Lincoln community.
