Little Linc Preschool

June Message

Little Linc Preschool hosted a drive-by graduation on May 15th for our students and their families.  Each family pulled through the carpool line while their teachers cheered them on.  Every child received a balloon, a special poster with their name, an award recognizing a special contribution the child made to the class, and a pack of summer fun activities.  After two months at home, it was a huge joy for teachers and families to reconnect!

We are extremely thankful to have all of our three year old preschoolers returning to be a part of our four year old class.  Most of our four year olds from this past year will be attending Lincoln Academy for kindergarten.  We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to build relationships with these families.

God Story:  Last summer, Mark and Dale met a family with four little girls while doing outreach in the Lincoln Park area.  They encouraged the family to apply to the preschool for the oldest child, and we were able to get her enrolled.  Over the year, we’ve had many opportunities to love this family in the name of Jesus.  It was beautiful to see different staff bringing in things the family needed, from food to diapers to blankets to clothes to car seats.  At one point, a director was able to go to a doctor’s appointment with the mom when she was terrified and unsure of what to do.  We prayed for the young father of this family as he wept in our preschool office sharing his struggles and asking for help.  Our Lincoln Field Staff helped connect this dad to some resources to help him with the challenges he was facing.  Another Lincoln staff connected the dad to a steady job.  This winter they were hit especially hard when they had to move out of their public housing apartment and find another place to live.  Throughout the year, the family was only ever able to pay for one month of tuition, but our staff felt led to provide a safe place for this child to learn and grow.  We were completely overwhelmed in the spring when the mom brought in money to cover the tuition for the year.  The family was able to get some assistance, and they wanted to repay the preschool for the care we had given their child.  We were humbled and blessed to receive this from the family.  In May we had a drive-by end of year celebration.  The grandmother was in the car with the family and she was weeping at the display of love toward the family.  We are thankful for the opportunity to have two of the children at the preschool next year to continue to build relationships with this family and to love them as the hands and feet of Jesus.  Ashley Powell,  Little Linc Director

Just a few miles from the most expensive houses in the inner city of Huntsville were men, women, and children surviving without the basic necessities. No running water or electricity. Plumbing didn’t work and floors were rotted from leaking pipes. Children had broken toys and went to bed hungry. A man with a heart for this inner city neighborhood stepped into the home of a little girl and her mother. That visit opened the man’s eyes and eventually a community’s eyes to the great need in their midst: the  need for Christ.

Lincoln Village Ministries is the product of one man’s call to action. The call has spread all over the city of Huntsville to pour out the hope and love of Jesus Christ into the Lincoln community.

The Month of Oct ’19

Little Linc Preschool celebrated the coming of our Savior with our annual Christmas program.  The children opened the program by reciting John 1:14, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  Parents and friends were delighted to see the children dressed up and acting out the Christmas story. While the preschoolers were adorable and innocent in their retelling of the first Christmas, they also communicated a powerful truth to their families.  The Creator of the Universe took on the humble form of humanity in order to be our Rescuer. I John 4:14 says “And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.” Jesus’ eyes were always on the cross. Please pray with us that our Little Linc students and their families will believe the truth of the Gospel and walk in relationship with Jesus!

Little Linc was also blessed in December with incredibly generous gifts from local individuals, churches, and schools.  The gifts of snacks and little toys for our “marble store” (a reward for good behavior) greatly offset our expenses at the preschool.  And the gifts of new shoes, pajamas, toys, gingerbread houses, and other necessities that were shared with each child were such an encouragement to each family.  Parenting can be challenging, but a little gift like new socks can help encourage and alleviate some stress. Thanks to all of our wonderful partners who were the hands and feet of Jesus to our families this Christmas!
