Lincoln Academy December ’20

Lincoln Academy

November was a very short month for Lincoln Academy!

* We made Monday mornings a little more enjoyable by throwing in some turkey trivia questions for students.  Did you know wild turkeys can fly at speeds up to 55 mph?  We didn’t either!

* It’s hard to believe that the second quarter of school is already halfway over.  Progress reports were sent home to parents before the Thanksgiving break.

* Students have digital homework at least one night a week.  The teachers are working diligently to prepare our students for virtual learning.  We learned a lot in spring 2020 and it has helped us strategically plan for a successful online learning experience, should we need it.    Students and parents have signed a technology user agreement for the school year.  They have also been made aware of the remote learning protocols and expectations.  Each class has a minimum of two meetings with the teacher each day and work is assigned online.   Students must be prompt and show up to the class meetings in dress code!

* We continue to learn about a different executive functioning skill each month.  Task initiation was the skill we focused on in our classrooms during the month of November. We discussed how important it is to remove distractions and begin a task right away!

* Our students and teachers have gone above and beyond in following all of our COVID health guidelines.   So far, we have not had a single case at Lincoln Academy!  Praise God for the blessing of being healthy and able to come to school in person!

Just a few miles from the most expensive houses in the inner city of Huntsville were men, women, and children surviving without the basic necessities. No running water or electricity. Plumbing didn’t work and floors were rotted from leaking pipes. Children had broken toys and went to bed hungry. A man with a heart for this inner city neighborhood stepped into the home of a little girl and her mother. That visit opened the man’s eyes and eventually a community’s eyes to the great need in their midst: the  need for Christ.

Lincoln Village Ministries is the product of one man’s call to action. The call has spread all over the city of Huntsville to pour out the hope and love of Jesus Christ into the Lincoln community.

Our students had a variety of field trip experiences during the last few weeks of the year!

Our 4th and 5th grade had a wonderful learning experience at Burritt on the Mountain. Our 5th grade class went to see the classic “A Christmas Carol”. The 6th graders entertained the residents at Regency Retirement Village.

Our 7th and 8th graders interacted with and entertained the veterans at Tut Fann Veterans Home.

We recognized and celebrated Alabama’s Bicentennial birthday on Friday, December 13th.

We were blessed to have America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses come to Lincoln and provide free eye screenings for 62 of our students.
