Alabama Tax Credit | SGO Scholarships

Lincoln Academy Scholarships: The Alabama Accountability Act (AAA) authorizes donation-funded scholarships which help low-income students access high-quality education options in qualifying private schools like Lincoln Academy in Huntsville AL. These scholarships are granted by Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs) for the purpose of taking private donations and awarding them to low-income students in qualifying schools. You can provide a scholarship at NO cost to you!

How does the Alabama Accountability Act (AAA) work for taxpayers?

Tax Credit

You are getting a tax credit. By redirecting a portion of your tax liability to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO), you reduce the total amount of your Alabama tax bill by 50%.

Donate

Taxpayers may donate up to 50% of their Alabama tax liability for a 100% tax credit. ($50,000 max for individuals; no max for businesses)

Example

An individual with $10,000 state income tax may make a $5,000 donation to an SGO, receive a $5,000 state tax credit for the donation, and only owe the state $5,000.

Availability

At midnight on January 1, $30 million dollar-for-dollar Alabama income tax credits are available on a first-come, first served basis to taxpayers who wish to support low-income children in our state.

How do I register my donation for a tax credit?

Estimate Your Donation

Taxpayers estimate their 2019 Alabama income tax liability. If you overestimate and your donation exceeds your 2019 liability, you may carry your credits forward up to 3 years.

How does how the Alabama Accountability Act (AAA) benefit Lincoln Academy?

Education Cost

The cost to educate a student per year at Lincoln Academy is $9,285. Currently, 98% of students receive a scholarship through an SGO, covering 70% of the costs for the student to attend Lincoln Academy. Parents are responsible for paying $50/month towards tuition, and the remainder is funded by your donations to Lincoln Village Ministry.

Student Benefits

Lincoln Academy students receive a Christ-centered education. The staff comes alongside Lincoln Academy students and their families to serve as a support system and help provide needed resources. Lincoln Academy has a licensed counselor on site four days a week to meet with children who need counseling. A HEALS clinic is available to students to address medical, dental, and optometry needs. Personal items including uniforms, coats, backpacks, and shoes are provided to Lincoln Academy students in need. Breakfast, lunch, and food to take home over the weekend are given to children who would otherwise not be fed at home. A variety of resources for parents are made available to help provide a stable and healthy home environment for Lincoln Academy students. By addressing the needs of the children we serve – both educational and others – they are in turn healthier learners.

Graduation

Once Lincoln Academy students graduate, their scholarship is available for them to attend a qualifying private high school if they so choose. In addition, Lincoln Academy has partnerships with several local private schools who offer high school scholarships to our graduates. Currently, Lincoln Academy has graduated 24 students; 14 attend local public schools, and 10 attend local private schools. 2018 was a milestone year as our first group of Lincoln Academy students graduated high school. Of the seven graduates, five are currently in college, with two receiving scholarships!

Your Support

The future is bright for Lincoln Academy students. Your partnership to help provide a scholarship for a student to attend Lincoln Academy is greatly appreciated. Please note that while participating in the AAA is a blessing, we pray it will not replace your donations to Lincoln Village Ministry as we rely on the generosity of our ministry friends to cover the remaining cost of tuition and advance the mission of sharing the gospel of Christ. Thank you for coming alongside us as we serve the families of Lincoln Village!
